Never above you. Never below you. Always beside you.

Joe Kolaszewski – Founder and CEO

Joe Kolaszewski dedicated 21 years of his life in faithful service to our nation. He began his military journey in the United States Marine Corps, serving 13 years in the elite Reconnaissance community with multiple combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Answering the call once again, he transferred to the United States Navy, where he served as a Critical Care Flight Nurse, bringing life-saving care to warriors in their most critical moments.

His career reflects courage, sacrifice, and an unshakable commitment to his brothers and sisters in arms. Today, he carries that same warrior spirit into this organization with fellow Veterans, First Responders, and Gold Star Families—ensuring they find healing, purpose, and hope through the outdoors.

Derek Johnson – President

Derek Johnson is a Navy Combat Veteran. He served nine years on active duty as a Navy Corpsman, deploying to both Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) theaters. Like many returning veterans, Derek faced challenges adjusting to civilian life. He struggled with anger, depression, and the invisible wounds that accompany the hardships of combat. His journey toward healing began when he met his best friend, Joe, and discovered a shared passion for hunting.

Through time spent in the outdoors, Derek experienced the restorative power of nature, camaraderie, and the fellowship that comes from sitting around a campfire with others who understand the weight of shared experiences. This revelation inspired Derek to dedicate his life to helping other veterans find the same sense of peace and purpose. His passion and renewed hope fuel his mission to provide opportunities for healing, connection, and growth through the programs of The Iron Ridge Outdoors Project.

Jeremy Huffman – Assistant Operations Officer

Jeremy Huffman is an avid hunter, dedicated outdoorsman, and one of the driving forces behind The Iron Ridge Outdoors Project. His lifelong connection to the outdoors began at a young age, where hunting became more than a pursuit, it became a foundation of discipline, respect for the land, and personal growth.

Today, Jeremy channels that passion into guiding and mentoring others through purposeful hunting expeditions that emphasize skill development, stewardship, and camaraderie. Through IROP, he is committed to helping individuals reconnect with nature, rediscover confidence, and experience the healing power of the outdoors.

Beyond the harvest, Jeremy finds fulfillment in sharing knowledge, building lasting relationships, and creating meaningful outdoor experiences that leave a lasting impact long after the hunt is over.
